Indian Country Law Enforcement Coordination and Outreach – Tribal Consultation with the Eight Northern Indian Pueblos

USA Damon P. Martinez participated in a tribal consultation at the Indian Pueblos Cultural Center that was coordinated by the Eight Northern Indian Pueblos Council.  USA Martinez updated the Governors and other pueblo leaders on the USAO’s efforts to address public safety challenges in Indian Country, the Civil Division’s affirmative civil work on behalf of tribes in New Mexico, and the office’s training and outreach programs.  Issues raised by the Governors and other pueblo leaders included Issues raised by the Governors and other Pueblo leaders included: civil jurisdiction over non-Indians, State criminal jurisdiction over non-Indians for victimless crimes, technical assistance for implementation of VAWA,  and continued training and outreach.  Supervisory AUSA Kyle Nayback, AUSA/Tribal Liaison David Adams, Victim Witness Specialist Toya and Media/Outreach Assistant Alyssa Ferda joined USA Martinez for this consultation.
