I am grateful for this chance to express my profound alarm at the takeover of food by a few companies, particularly Monsanto.  I have been following this since 1992 when a political decision was made to allow GE foods with basically no oversight to enter the food chain - like opening Pandora's box.  Monsanto man, Michael Taylor, alas the same one, came to the FDA and "helped" the no regulations policy and the passing of the terrible Monsanto Prosilac, the rBGH hormone to force cows to give more milk at great danger to humans and cows.

The policies embraced by Monsanto involve unfettered, non-competive, environmental, health and community destroying practices to control world food saying this is necessary for feeding the world. For a different take, the Justice Dept must study the conclusion of the remarkable GLOBAL REPORT on Agriculture at a Crossroads, paid for by the World Bank, sponsored by all UN agencies, taking 4 years, over 400 experts involving over 100 governments, civil society, peasant and industrial farmers.   Released April 2008, it has been suppressed, SINCE THE CONCLUSION WAS NOT WHAT THE BIOTECH AND CHEMICAL AG PEOPLE WANTED TO HEAR!   It will be small scale organic agriculture that will feed the world in the future and genetic engineering and industrial agriculture will have little role!

IAASTD, THE INTERNATIONAL ASSESSMENT OF AGRICULTURAL kNOWLEDGE, SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY is essential reading to see the error of allowing such dangerously controling companies to have their way in the world.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to comment.
