I am writing because I am concerned about the lack of competition in agricultural markets.
The healthiest food we can eat is the freshest and most local we can find. Supporting smaller, local farms is key to improving our health.
In additional small, local farms are better for the environment by both reducing pollution and because smaller farms tend to be gentler on the land they use.
Not least is that our economy is improved by a larger number of small farms, rather than a small number of large companies.
Monsanto, on the other hand, promotes harmful chemicals such as rBGH. They lobby for GMO's, which are known to cause fertility problems, damage to vital organs, and even can cause our own gut bacteria to produce pesticides inside us. They have used deception for decades in order to attain increased profit.
The interests of Monsanto and other large companies in any food, meat, or agricultural business should be considered secondary to the needs and interests of smaller, local farms.
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to comment.
