Subject: Monsanto monopoly

To whom it may concern:
I am a three year cancer survivor. I never smoked, used drugs or abused alcohol. I thought I ate correctly and have never been overweight. That being said, I could not figure out why I had cancer. My husband & I started to read about our food system. The more we read, the more we were amazed at how naive we had been for the first fifty years of our lives. We assumed that the FDA was there to protect the citizens of this country and that our food was safe to eat...wrong! Monsanto is the primary offender of what is wrong with our food, water, the environment, the health of people and the lively hood of millions of farmers in the US and abroad. Tons and tons of their toxic fertilizers and pesticides have been dumped onto the earth killing the soil and water. They have forced GMO's into our food system, taken away farmer's rights and purchased seed companies in order to get their patent on seed. It is offensive enough that they have done this to the US but to bully their way into the EU and third world countries is unconscionable. They have bought their way into our government positions and pay  huge sums of dollars to have policies written on their behalf. What happened to the country that was founded on a "government of the people, by the people and for the people"? This monopoly must be stopped. They cannot be allowed to own the food of the world and in doing so kill the environment and all living things.
My husband and I vote with our dollars. We are fortunate to be able to purchase our food from small, local farmers who promote sustainable, organic agriculture.
Thank you for allowing me to submit my comments. We ask that you do what is right in protecting the people of this country and this world. Please stop Monsanto.
Sincerely,
Diane Hippert
