Subject: giant corporate consolidation

 To Whom it May Concern

I am a mother, a cook, and a person who cares about the availability of good food for everybody. I am very concerned about the present trend of corporate consolidation of food, in all aspects. I see its negative aspects.

As these corporations have grown, they have become more powerful as their lobbies are enormous and so well funded. Many food items so common in the American diet are only common because of pressure from food giants, but are, in fact, inherently not healthy food products, such as corn syrup. Our tax dollars subsidize such "foods". It makes me so angry to think that my money supports this system.

Also, most of our food travels ridiculous distances, an average of 1500 miles from where it is grown to where it is eaten. This is also caused by the too large corporations in who are interested in centralization of product, as it maximizes their profits. The carbon footprint is huge, while, at the same time, small family farms are unable to survive.

Thank you for your attention.
