I am writing because I am concerned about the lack of competition in agricultural markets.
It's time that the American people have a reliable and trusted food system. Times have changed and the majority of people don't grow their own food anymore. We have to rely on others except the companies we rely on only see dollar signs. They are in it for a profit. For example:
1) Monsanto controls the majority of the seeds in the US. It's common knowledge that foramers who don't buy seeds from them are regularly threatened.
2) Large corporations have setup a "revolving door" between corporate lobbyists and government regulators.
3) Prices are rising at the supermarket, but we hear that farmers are struggling, yet the big food companies have made record profits.
4) Food is grown in ways that harm the environment and the people who eat it using methods that pollute the water, poison the soil and threaten our long-term food security.
Where is the competition? Why do a handful of huge companies control our food supply? It is unacceptable and puts all Americans at risk and costs them more money than necessary.
Let's make serious changes in the system and do what is right for the country.
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to comment.
