I am writing because I am concerned that only a few very powerful and wealth corporations have a monopoly on something as critical as a safe and healthy food supply. I am an educated and informed person and even I have difficulty following information about which foods are genetically modified and which have been exposed to chemical fertilization. Our bodies have an unprecedented amount of foreign chemicals in them and the health effects of biological and environmental tampering and modification have been given an innocent until proven guilty pass when we know many chemicals remain untested and are likely to prove harmful.
The lack of competition in agricultural markets discourages local growers who do not have the resources for lobbying and advertising that companies such as Monsanto have. It is difficult for the average person to stay informed and address their concerns against such a formidable adversary. Please don't give Monsanto a free pass. Require that they support healthful and affordable food production that respects natures biodiversity. Monocrops are devastating to the environment, undermine our ability to protect our food supply internationally as well, put access to food at the mercy of those seeking quick profit and are increasingly grown in ways that pollute our water and poison the soil.
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to comment.
