Subject: Comments on Agriculture and Antitrust Enforcement Issues

I work as a computer network engineer.  I have no special expertise in
agriculture, but I do eat food.  I think it's clear that the
concentration of agribusiness has led to a deterioration in the
quality and safety of our food.  I don't think it's an accident that
our country is at the top of the list for agribusiness control and
also for obesity - high fructose corn syrup is just one example.  And
the loss of diversity in crops is a disaster that may unfold soon -
it's possible that our grandchildren will know bananas only from
memory.  The only argument for allowing such high levels of
concentration in agricultural enterprises is that of political
expediency.  I'm hoping that letter like mine may help to countervail
that argument, because I feel that there is a large constituency in
favor of tighter control of these burgeoning corporations.
