|Subject:||Response to US Food Crisis Working Group|
I am responding as an independent small family farmer, with about half an acre of fruit trees and another half acre of organic vegetable garden here on the north coast of the Peninsula in Washington State.
Smaller independent farmers keep the KNOWLEDGE of how to grow food alive in the community. We keep a SOURCE for food available locally in case of major food supply disruption. And we PRODUCE varieties of fruits and vegetables that are site specific in case of sustained supply disruptions.
