I am writing because I am concerned about the lack of competition in agricultural markets. This is a seriously flawed system. There needs to be healthy competition and a commitment to high-quality, safe, healthy food for all. Monsanto should not be allowed the power it has.
As a concerned consumer and citizen, I want to know exactly what's in the food I buy. I want accurate labels to know where it grew, what chemicals were used on it, and whether it's genetically modified, so I can choose whether or not I want to consume it.
I'm tired of corporate lobbyists and big agribusiness squeezing out family farms. That's not the way it should be. Big food companies made record profits this year while our farmers are struggling. Big food companies need to be held to stricter standards, and agribusiness should be also, but not by passing blanket regulations that unfairly punish small farmers and producers who are not responsible for the inhumane and unsanitary conditions of factory farms.
