I am writing because I am concerned about the lack of competition in agricultural markets. As a parent of 2 small children my wife and I are very concerned about what our children eat. We want sustainable , organic, healthy food for our family. The fact that only a handful of companies control what is on the super market shelves is frightening. After researching our food supply system we are outraged and hope that you will put an end to the monopolistic behaviour of companies like Monsanto, Cargill, Purdue, and Tyson. The collective behaviour of this cartel along with the consolidation of the supermarket chains have made it cheaper to eat unhealhty junk food than eat to eat fruits and vegetables. as a worker at a local stop and shop said mistakenly to me "...less choice and more value."
The fact that farmers are being forced by bad coroprate actors like Monsanto to purchase only their seeds or to raise chickens in windowsless tunnel ventilated building by Purdue and Tyson is wrong and should be illegal. this is Americas food supply that a few compaies have almost complete contro; over. The results have been disastorous so far Ecoli deaths, Obesity epedemic, Diabetes on the rise.
All this with record profits. Sounds like these compaies are guilty of crimes against humanity.
Please help correct this for the sake of innocent children like my 2 boys.
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to comment.
