I am writing because I am concerned about the lack of competition in agricultural markets.
Too much of our food is controlled by a small number of corporations. I said corporations NOT farmers. Farmers are hurting from this through price fixing, seed patenting, GMOs, and worst of all we are destroying our land and polluting our water in the process through chemical agriculture. Corporations have only one think on their mind and it's not the well being of our bodies or the well being of our land and water. The only thing they want is money.
I grew with my family trying to start a small farm. I would be a farmer right now. But the current system pushes out the little guys and supports the big "agribusinesses" not the farmer raising the animals or growing the food. My family currently does not farm anymore because of this. The system has got to change. There is no free market for agriculture right now. The industry is consolidated into a few businesses because of government's not looking out for the farmer but looking out for the corporations.
This is our health, our children, our land, our water, and ultimately our future as a people. This is all related to our food. So please do something about it, anything. And thank you for giving me the opportunity to comment.
