Canada: ICITAP Promotes Leadership among Women Police at the IAWP Conference

From August 26 to August 30, ICITAP led a 30-person, 10-nation delegation at the International Association of Women Police (IAWP (link is external)) conference in Calgary, Canada. In addition to ICITAP’s HQ participation, ICITAP sponsored women police leaders from Albania, Bangladesh, Bosnia-Herzegovina, the Dominican Republic, Indonesia, Kosovo, Nepal, the Philippines, Serbia, and Ukraine. The annual training conference is the biggest event in the association's calendar and recognizes the large contribution made by women in policing. The conference provides participants with the opportunity to hear from global police leaders, to share best practices and to discuss cross-cutting local and international issues. Further, the international participants have the chance to share success stories, build their regional professional network, identify points for collaboration, and gain exposure to new law enforcement techniques and methodologies. ICITAP’s investment in leadership training for women police has contributed significantly to rising levels of both female participation in police forces throughout the world as well as leadership positions held by female executives, such as former Kosovo Police Brigadier-General Atifete Jahjaga (link is external), who also served as the President of Kosovo from 2011-2016.
