On April 13, the Ministry of Interior and Police of the Dominican Republic initiated transformative procedures to promote change of law enforcement throughout the nation. The Ministry of Interior and Police instructed the Dominican National Police to complete a number of activities to facilitate institutional transformation and reform. The USAID-supported ICITAP mission assisted by providing technical assistance to fourteen Regional Directorates, ten associated Specialized Directorates, and the Planning and Development Directorate to complete the assignment, which included a compilation of procedures implemented on a day-to-day basis. The information will be analyzed to identify strengths and gaps within the procedures, which will be important for creating a design and implementation timetable. This initiative is intended to strengthen institutional structure and enhance police services to the community. In the Dominican Republic, ICITAP works with the support of and in coordination with the U.S. Agency for International Development.
