Indonesia: ICITAP Leads National-Level Forum to Combat Domestic Violence

On January 23, ICITAP-Indonesia’s Woman’s Leadership Development Program, in collaboration with the Indonesian National Police (INP) and the Ministry of Women Empowerment and Child Protection (KPPPA) led an interactive forum titled “Women Economic Empowerment – The Intersection with Domestic Violence.”  The goal of the forum was to discuss the importance of Women Economic Empowerment as an effort to prevent domestic violence.  It featured expert speakers to include the Minister of KPPPA, the Primary Policy Analyst from INP, the Head of the National Commission on Violence Against Women, who provided a comprehension background on the issue of DV and the correlation with Women’s Economic Empowerment as a way to prevent it. The speakers provided a better perspective in conducting activities related to economic empowerment that may prevent the potential of DV and provided information on available options nationally in the area of economic empowerment for women to act or expand their entrepreneurial interest. Over 500 people attended the event to include INP officials, Indonesian government institutions, NGOs, local academics, the private sector, the national media, social media reporters, community-based organizations, and ambassadors of a number of foreign missions.
