Mali: ICITAP Recognized by U.S. Ambassador for Assistance to Crisis Response Team

On August 20, ICITAP-Mali reported on ICITAP’s assistance to Mali’s crisis response team. Delivering on the U.S. pledge to assist Mali in creating a self-sustaining crisis response team within the Gendarmerie, the U.S. Ambassador to Mali presented this specialized unit with an equipment donation at a ceremony held on August 16 in Bamako. The acquisition of this equipment was facilitated by ICITAP in partnership with the U.S. Anti-Terrorism Assistance (ATA) Program, which provides anti-terrorism training and equipment to law enforcement agencies around the world.  The donation included six vehicles, 46 semi-permanent structures to fortify military installations, 17 pallets of protection equipment, including uniforms, tactical vests, helmets and body armor, and a comprehensive plan for integrating the donated materials into the unit’s operations. The Director General of the National Gendarmerie, as well as four staff members from the United States Congress, joined the U.S. Ambassador at the ceremony.
