Montenegro: Embassy Highlights ICITAP’s Efforts to Counter Domestic Violence

December 20, 2018

On December 20, the U.S. Embassy in Podgorica highlighted ICITAP’s mission in a press release titled “U.S. Embassy Podgorica Helping Montenegro to Counter Domestic Violence while Supporting Women in Policing and Gender Equality Initiatives” – “…ICITAP is working with Montenegrin law enforcement to counter domestic violence and to support initiatives that promote gender equality. For example, ICITAP will support the participation of female police officers from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in the World Conference of Women in the Security Sector in Budva (February 19 – 22). ICITAP will also provide assistance so that female police officers from Montenegro can attend the Women’s Leadership Institute (February 24 – March 1) in Colorado Springs, Colorado.  This event traditionally focuses on empowering women in public safety organizations. In 2018, ICITAP organized a conference to support first responders in preventing and responding to incidents of domestic violence in Montenegro. Building on this success, ICITAP will host a training program on police procedures in domestic violence cases in 2019. The U.S. Embassy is proud to support these initiatives and to work together with our Montenegrin partners in strengthening the rule of law.  Our team will continue to provide expert assistance, training, and equipment to support Montenegrin law enforcement’s reform efforts in 2019.” For more information and photos: https://me.usembassy.gov/u-s-embassy-podgorica-helping-montenegro-to-counter-domestic-violence-while-supporting-women-in-policing-and-gender-equality-initiatives/
