On May 14, two ICITAP-trained Ukrainian Patrol Police Master Trainers for the Mentorship Training Officer Project (MTOP) conducted their first course for 17 Patrol Police (PP) officers who will become mentors for new Patrol officers. This is the first time that Patrol Police officers have taught the course, which had previously been taught by ICITAP advisors for more than two years. To celebrate this major step in project sustainability, a graduation ceremony was attended by the 17 new mentors, the First Deputy Head of the Patrol Police, ICITAP’s Mission Advisor and a Senior Law Enforcement Advisor. Since the MTOP project began in April 2019, 183 officers have been trained as mentors and 20 as Master Trainers. Currently, 143 officers are mentoring 77 newly-graduated Patrol Police officers and have mentored 417 trainees. The goal of the project, now being implemented by the NPU with guidance from ICITAP, is to provide in-field mentorship to every officer at the beginning of his or her service after graduating from the Patrol Police Academy. In Ukraine, ICITAP works with the support of and in collaboration with the State Department’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs.
