Ukraine: ICITAP-Supported Police Academy Graduates First Class of New Officers

On August 16, the Patrol Police Academy (PPA) of the National Police of Ukraine (NPU) graduated the first class of recruits under a six-month curriculum. A total of 56 recruits successfully completed their training. The six-month curriculum development and implementation process, supported by ICITAP-Ukraine staff and subject matter experts in collaboration with NPU Human Resources staff and Patrol Police Academy staff, began in October 2018. The process involved transitioning from the original ICITAP-Ukraine developed four-month curriculum by incorporating new courses and expanding existing courses.  All course development continues incorporating adult learning theory and practices into instructional practices. ICITAP continues supporting the rollout of the six-month curriculum with a revised and streamlined lesson plan format. The process of transitioning to the six-month curriculum is intent on increasing the professionalism of the Patrol Police Department. In Ukraine, ICITAP provides assistance to the PPA with the support of and in coordination with the State Department’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (State/INL).
