Bangladesh: ICITAP Ensures Training Sustainability Through Instructor Development Course for Future Bangladesh Police Host National Instructors
On August 22, the ICITAP-Bangladesh mission provided an update on its assistance to the Bangladesh Police (BP). In furtherance of ICITAP’s Host National Instructor (HNI) program goals, during the weeks of August 6 to 17, 2023, ICITAP successfully completed an Instructor Development Course (IDC) for select members of the BP. In total, ten BP officers from various ranks ranging from Sub-Inspectors to Superintendents were trained. Additionally, the personnel were selected from various units and divisions within the BP, to include Special Branch (SB) – Immigration, the Armed Police Battalion (APBn), the Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU), and the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), to ensure a wider disbursement and reach within the BP. This IDC training event provided future instructors with lessons on classroom management, student engagement, education basics, curriculum development, teaching techniques, and principles of adult learning. This Train-the-Trainer course was designed as a force multiplier to enhance the BP's ability to provide training to a larger number of police personnel and is part of ICITAP's strategy to increase the overall capacity and long-term success of the BP. In addition, three previously ICITAP-developed HNIs assisted in proving this training, along with sharing their experience and knowledge learned first-hand, to better prepare their fellow cadre members.
