Colombia: ICITAP Provides Training to Analysts in Interpretation of Information in Criminal Analysis
During the week of May 6- 10, ICITAP, with funding and support from the U.S. Department of State Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL), provided training titled Interpretation of Information in Criminal Analysis to 19 analysts from the Colombian National Police (CNP) and the Attorney General's Office (AGO). The course was designed the request of the CNP and AGO analysts due to lack of training by the investigators and analyst in the proper documentation the criminal act in investigations. The course focused on the trial preparation and oral testimony within the framework of the accusatory criminal justice system. The analyst's participation in the criminal process consisted of introducing demonstrative evidence as an expert witness. The participants were trained in the elaboration of an illustration that explains the criminal act associated with extortion, environmental crimes, kidnapping and gender-based violence, to support criminal investigation cases in the prioritized areas of the Rural Justice Project. The training was conducted through five learning phases: 1) Entity extraction; 2) Structuring of relationships between entities; 3) Integration of entities that make up the criminal act; 4) Formulation of criminal analysis hypotheses; and 5) Formulation of conclusions of the criminal act.
