Indonesia: ICITAP Leads Delegation from National Police Human Resources and Psychology Bureau to California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training

On October 10, ICITAP’s Ethical Policing and Development (EPAD) team led an Indonesian National Police delegation from the Human Resource and Psychology Bureau to the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) in Sacramento as one of their stops on their US study tour. The study tour aims to learn more about officer wellness to retain better employees and reduce corrupt behavior. During this tour, the POST management provided a detailed presentation for the INP delegates on employee wellness standards and training. The presentation also explained POST's role in the hiring process. These duties include developing selection criteria, certifying training, providing technical assistance, and conducting compliance audits. Delegates were also given the opportunity to learn how Learning Domain 14 on "Officer Wellness" came to fruition. This learning domain covers the most prevalent stressors for police officers, how to anticipate and treat them, and how to be resilient through self-care. Another presentation made to the delegates was the POST Organizational Wellness and Resilience (POWR) program, in which POST, in collaboration with the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), will assist police departments in developing wellness programs tailored to their specific needs. Officer wellness has been an essential topic among agencies, and state legislation has proven its support by allocating monies to police departments and POST to build the necessary wellness programs. INP delegates requested the curriculum for Learning Domain 14 and the instructor handbook to construct courses for INP's basic training, in-service training, and advanced/management training.
