Mexico: ICITAP Honors Forensic Services Personnel in Quintana Roo, Strengthening Professional Capacity and U.S.-Mexico Law Enforcement Collaboration
On January 23, the ICITAP-Mexico Attaché and the ICITAP-Mexico Director of Operations, alongside the U.S. Embassy in Mexico and the Attorney General of Quintana Roo, participated in a ceremony honoring 23 public servants from the state’s forensic services agency who successfully completed ICITAP-led courses in genetics, chemistry, and Internal Auditing of Quality Management Systems. The courses, delivered by ICITAP advisors, combined technical instruction with practical exercises to enhance the scientific, analytical, and quality management skills of the laboratory personnel, strengthening their ability to support investigations and produce reliable forensic results. During the ceremony, the Attorney General emphasized the importance of international collaboration, stating, “I have always considered it important to strengthen our ties of friendship and collaboration with the various security and justice agencies of the United States of America, since, as a law enforcement institution, we must stay up-to-date and constantly improve our methodology and processes to professionalize our personnel for the benefit of the people of Quintana Roo.” Certificates were awarded to the participants, and leadership encouraged them to apply their knowledge and share lessons learned to improve institutional processes, advance investigative capabilities, and implement best international practices. The event, also attended by the Director General of Forensic Services and the agency’s Quality Manager, highlighted ICITAP’s critical role in fostering sustainable capacity, professionalizing forensic operations, and strengthening accountability within Quintana Roo’s justice institutions. Through sustained mentoring, technical guidance, and coordination with the U.S. Department of State Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL), ICITAP continues to advance forensic professionalism, enhance investigative effectiveness, and support public safety and security across the region, reflecting the tangible impact of long-term U.S. law enforcement partnerships.
