Overview

On October 11, 2022, the court entered a consent order in United States v. Larpenteur Estates Apartments, LLC, et al. (D. Minn.).  The complaint, which was filed on August 29, 2022, alleged that the owner and managers of an apartment complex in St. Paul, Minnesota refused to allow a rental applicant to move in with her emotional assistance cat.  The consent order requires the defendants to adopt an assistance animal policy, obtain fair housing training, and pay $12,900 in damages to the complainant.  The case was referred to the Division after the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) received a complaint, conducted an investigation, and issued a charge of discrimination.
