On March 15, 2006, the United States filed United States v. Daniel Waisbord, et al. (E.D. Pa.). The complaint alleges the defendants discriminated on the basis of race when they refused to rent an apartment to an African-American woman and stated the neighbors would not like it. The defendants offered the woman an apartment in another neighborhood. She said she wanted the other apartment she had seen. The defendants refused to rent it to her and eventually rented the unit to a white woman at a lower rent than had been discussed with the complainant.
The case was referred to the Division after the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) received a complaint, conducted an investigation, and issued a charge of discrimination.> >
