Prosecution Of “Wildlife” Crimes

The following are significant wildlife environmental crimes cases the Environmental Crimes Section (ECS) prosecuted jointly with United States Attorney’s Offices or on its own. The list is intended to reflect: (1) the success that the Section has achieved in bringing cases under the major environmental statutes, (2) the diverse nature of the Section’s work, and (3) a number of the landmark prosecutions in the environmental crimes area. The list is by no means exhaustive; the Section has prosecuted many cases not included on this list that had larger fines or penalties and longer jail sentences than some of cases listed here. Cases are grouped by major statute and/or by initiative.
