The DOJ OIG is one of the premier federal inspector general offices, and performs audits, evaluations, investigations, and special reviews of the personnel and programs of the DOJ components. The OIG is an independent entity that works to prevent fraud, waste, abuse, and misconduct in DOJ programs and personnel, and to promote economy and efficiency in those programs. This position is located in the OIG's Oversight and Review Division. The individual selected will be responsible for executive leadership, direction and supervision over a staff consisting of attorneys, criminal investigators, and analysts.
You will be responsible for providing executive leadership and direction to a staff of attorneys, investigative personnel, and analysts who conduct Oversight and Review (O&R) Division review and investigations. The incumbent reviews potential investigative matters and requests for OIG assistance and advises the IG on a recommended course of action in response. O&R Division assignments may be performed using some or all of the disciplines available from O&R Division staff and may also be performed using employees from other OIG components, or from external sources, according to the nature of work required. Flexibility and innovative resourcefulness are required to design and manage diverse talents and tasks to complete assignments of great variety, often under urgent time frames. The assignments often involve extremely sensitive, complex and controversial investigations into IG or department operations and personnel. Certain of these investigations require the exercise of extreme discretion, tact and diplomacy and excellent judgment. The incumbent exercises skill and leadership by personal example to ensure that these investigations are conducted with a high degree of professional competence, objectivity, and flexibility.
To meet the minimum qualifications, applicants must have a J.D. degree, be an active member of the bar (any jurisdiction), and have at least 5 years post J.D. legal or other relevant experience.

Mandatory Technical Qualifications (MTQs): Qualified candidates must possess the following technical qualifications in addition to the mandatory ECQs. 1: Substantial experience managing and supervising broad-ranging, complex, and highly technical OIG reviews and investigations.
2: Substantial experience managing and supervising the organization, drafting, editing and publication of detailed Reports of Investigations (ROI).
3: Ability to communicate effectively and work constructively and collaboratively with other internal and external organizations and other professional disciplines to enhance the effectiveness of operations.
