Job Description

Major duties of the role include:
- Improving the USAO's use of existing tools (e.g., Eclipse, Everlaw, eZManage, Evidence.com); learning new
tools as they become available; and assessing the utility of tools for the office and making recommendations on
their implementation.
- Developing and providing periodic trainings for litigating divisions on e-Litigation legal issues and tools, including
developing training for new employee orientation.
- Establishing and maintaining go-bys and sample pleadings on e-Litigation issues and ensuring consistent
litigating positions on a-Litigation issues, including by consulting on briefing of related legal issues.
- Acting as the USAO's primary liaison on a-Litigation issues to Department components, including EOUSA, as
well as to the Federal Public Defender, the Court, agencies, and other outside groups.
- Staying abreast of emerging issues and topics in e-Litigation and providing advice to management and AUSAs.
- Providing technical and strategic guidance to litigating teams on collection, review, production, and presentation
of evidence, including assisting in obtaining outside resources when necessary.
- Standing up the USAO's litigation technology/support unit and its staff, including prioritizing litigation support
projects within the unit, and developing and implementing legally sound processing and production standards. /
In addition, once the unit is established, the AUSA may prepare and present cases for prosecution, to include preparing
grand jury authorization requests, prosecution summaries, and indictment recommendations; preparing indictments,
motions, pleadings, and briefs; conducting pretrial discovery and motions practice; developing testimonial and
documentary evidence for trial; and conducting every aspect of trial preparation and trial presentation in federal criminal
trials in jurisdictions across the United States.
The AUSA will also handle non-litigation matters that arise in relation to the Division's mission of investigating and
prosecuting cases. These non-litigation duties might include participating in strategy and coordination meetings;
conducting legal trainings, public presentations, and other forms of outreach; meeting with interested persons regarding
prosecutorial decisions; and other non-litigation duties.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications: Applicants must possess a JD degree, be an active member of the bar (any US jurisdiction), and have at least 3 years post JD legal or other relevant experience.

United States citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with complex civil or criminal litigation and with using litigation technology applications to acquire, organize, analyze and present electronic discovery and evidence is strongly preferred. Successful candidates should have a strong academic background, possess superior oral and written communication skills, possess strong interpersonal skills, and have demonstrated the capacity to work effectively with a team, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and function with minimal guidance in a highly demanding environment. Successful candidates should also possess the knowledge and ability to use computers and computer applications in performing day-to-day work requirements. The ideal candidate will have prior experience with e-Discovery, e-Litigation, and/or e-Document issues, as well as experience with starting up a new entity devoted to these issues.

Suitability and Citizenship:  It is the policy of the Department to achieve a drug-free workplace and persons selected for employment will be required to pass a drug test which screens for illegal drug use prior to final appointment.  Employment is also contingent upon the completion and satisfactory adjudication of a background investigation. Congress generally prohibits agencies from employing non-citizens within the United States, except for a few narrow exceptions as set forth in the annual Appropriations Act (see, https://www.usajobs.gov/Help/working-in-government/non-citizens/).
