Job Description: 

The Criminal Division is organized into six sections: General Crimes; White Collar Crimes; National Security; Violent Crimes; Narcotics/Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF); and Appellate.

The United States Attorney's Office, Northern District of Ohio, is interviewing for an Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) to be located in the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) Unit of the Criminal Division in the Cleveland office. The primary duties for this position involve a substantial time developing, researching, and preparing cases involving primarily complex drug crimes from case submission to and through the appellate process.

This is a term appointment not-to-exceed 24 months (two years). This position may be extended or made permanent without further competition.

Qualifications: 

Required QualificationsApplicants must possess a J.D. Degree, be an active member in good standing of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction), and have at least three (3) full years of post-bar admission experience in criminal law.  A United States citizenship is required.

Preferred QualificationsThe ideal candidate will have prior experience as a narcotics prosecutor and demonstrated experience in areas of preparation and litigation of electronic surveillance areas including Title III intercepts.

Applicants should have strong academic credentials, superior legal research and writing skills, quick analytical ability to accurately and precisely articulate critical case-related issues, courtroom experience, good interpersonal skills, the ability to work in a supportive and professional team environment with client agencies, support staff and other attorneys, and a demonstrated commitment to public service.

Applicants should possess excellent computer skills. Experience with automated research, electronic court filing, and various word-processing systems, including strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, is required.

Salary: 
Assistant United States Attorney's pay is administratively determined based, in part, on the number of years of professional attorney experience. The range of basic pay is $68,460.00 to $149,503.00, which includes 20.08% locality pay.
Travel: 
The AUSA may be required to travel throughout the Northern District of Ohio to attend court proceedings, interview witnesses, attend meetings and to attend training at the Department of Justice's National Advocacy Center, Columbia, South Carolina.

Veterans:  There is no formal rating system for applying veterans' preference to attorney appointments in the excepted service; however, the Department of Justice considers veterans' preference eligibility as a positive factor in attorney hiring. Applicants eligible for veterans' preference must include that information in their cover letter or resume and attach supporting documentation (e.g., the DD 214, Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty and other supporting documentation) to their submissions.
