The U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia is investigating and prosecuting individuals involved in the January 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol. Currently, over 700 individuals located throughout the nation have been charged with a multitude of criminal offenses arising from the attack. The Capitol Siege Section in the Criminal Division of the Office is responsible for the investigation and prosecution of these matters in U.S. District Court.

The United States Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia is accepting applications for term attorneys to serve as Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs) in the Capitol Siege Section of the Criminal Division. AUSAs in the Capitol Siege Section investigate and prosecute individuals charged with criminal offenses arising from the January 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol. AUSAs handle all stages of litigation, including the filing or return of charges, fulfilling discovery obligations, motions practice, engaging in plea negotiations, prosecuting cases at trial, and allocuting at sentencings.
AUSAs must possess the qualities necessary to excel in their mission to enforce the criminal laws of the the United States. These qualities include advocacy and communication skills; superior writing and analytical skills; the ability to manage a high volume docket; and dedication to duty. Successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to work in a supportive and professional manner with other attorneys, support staff, investigative agencies, witnesses, and crime victims. They must also demonstrate their willingness to meet the high ethical standards expected of prosecutors in their interactions with opposing counsel and the courts.
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

This is a 2 year term position. This position may be extended for one year without further competition. Individual may at agency discretion be converted to a permanent appointment without further competition.
This position is located in Washington, District of Columbia.
Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory preemployment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. In addition, continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
This is a temporary appointment not-to-exceed 24 months. This position may be extended or made permanent without further competition.

Litigation experience and a minimum GPA of 3.0 is preferred.
