The United States Attorney's Office for the District of Arizona (USAO-AZ) is an energetic and collegial office which prosecutes federal offenses, defends the United States Government's interests and affirmatively pursues claims on behalf of the government, representing the United States in all criminal prosecution, and civil and appellate litigation in the District of Arizona. Our mission is to provide Federal leadership in preventing and controlling crime, seek just punishment for those guilty of unlawful behavior, and to administer and enforce the Nation's laws to ensure fair and impartial administration of justice for all Arizonans. The District of Arizona has two large offices, in Phoenix and Tucson respectively, and smaller offices in Flagstaff and Yuma. Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs) have the opportunity to represent the United States of America before the United States District Court in Arizona and before the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. In performing this important public service, AUSAs are given responsibility that is unparalleled in any other job that a litigator might undertake. Because AUSAs represent the United States, they are expected to comport themselves with the highest level of professionalism in their interactions with the courts, federal law enforcement, victims, colleagues, and the defense bar. AUSAs in our Yuma office are primarily responsible for prosecuting federal crimes along the international border in that region. With training and support, a new AUSA in the Yuma office will be expected to handle a high-volume caseload involving a variety of violations of federal law, such as human smuggling, drug trafficking, firearms trafficking, unlawful entries, assaults on federal officers, and other federal crimes. As a new AUSA in the Yuma office progresses in training and experience. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
Required Qualifications:
Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree, be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction), and have at least 1* year post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience.
