The Computer Crime and Intellectual Property Section (CCIPS) strives to do justice and protect victims of computer and intellectual property crime by uniquely combining technical expertise, legal insight, and effective advocacy. In implementing this goal, CCIPS pursues three overarching goals: to deter and disrupt computer and intellectual property crime, to guide the proper collection of electronic evidence by investigators and prosecutors, and to provide technical and legal advice and assistance to agents and prosecutors in the U.S. and around the world. It executes this mission in a wide variety of ways, including (a) by pursuing and coordinating investigations and prosecutions, and helping others to do so; (b) through activities that build the international legal and operational environment that allows for successful investigations and prosecutions; (c) by providing expert legal and technical advice and support to the Department, investigative agencies, and other executive branch agencies; and (d) by developing and advocating for computer and intellectual property crime policies and legislation
The Principal Deputy Chief of the Computer Crime and Intellectual Property Section:
- Supervises subordinate managers who oversee the activities of attorneys and technology specialists in the Section.
- Assists and supports the Chief in the day to day operations of the Section, including but not limited to supervising of professional and administrative staff, procurement, budget allocation, hiring, personnel disciplinary actions, and reporting responsibilities.
- Works with subordinate managers to develop, implement, and coordinate Department initiatives in the Section's areas of expertise.
- Oversees national training and support for the Computer Hacking and Intellectual Property (CHIP) Program, a national network of over 200 Assistant U.S. Attorneys who specialize in prosecuting computer and IP crime.
- Works closely with United States Attorneys' Offices to ensure the proper coordination of multi-district and multi-national computer crime and intellectual property investigations and prosecutions.
- Develops and reviews CCIPS strategies to increase cooperation with foreign entities and governments and to harmonize laws and eliminate impediments in international investigations.
- Helps oversee the development and execution of the Section's technology crime program, integrating the work of CCIPS's Cybercrime Lab with the Section's criminal and technology law work.
- Directly works with the Office of the Assistant Attorney General of the Criminal Division to ensure implementation of policy and strategy initiatives.
- Serves as a principal liaison between the Criminal Division, other federal agencies, and a variety of domestic and international officials on computer and intellectual property crime issues. Briefs Congressional and White House staff and speaks to the press as appropriate, in coordination with relevant DOJ offices.
- Advises high level Department officials on matters relating to significant prosecutions and the Section's legal and policy work. Supervises the preparation of Department officials for testimony before Congressional Committees and subcommittees.
- Oversees the Section's financial, human and technical resource applications.
- Represents the Section at national and international conferences, as well as multilateral and bilateral meetings involving foreign governments, as a subject matter expert in the areas of electronic evidence, cybercrime and intellectual property crime.
Interested applicants must possess a J.D. degree, be duly licensed and authorized to practice as an attorney under the laws of any State or territory of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Applicants must be an active member of the bar (any jurisdiction) in good standing and have at least 5 years post-J.D. experience. Applicants must also have a high level of management/supervisory experience.

Professional/Technical Qualification Requirements
- Experience in developing, litigating, and supervising the prosecution of federal cases and the work product of federal prosecutors, especially in matters involving computer crime and intellectual property offenses.
- Familiarity with the Federal regulatory and investigatory agencies, on-going programs, and key national goals and priorities relating to computer crime, intellectual property enforcement, cybersecurity, and computer forensics.
- Experience in establishing and maintaining harmonious relationships with the public, members of Congress, federal law enforcement agencies, United States Attorney's Offices, and Department and Division senior officials.
- Substantial experience with applying the Electronic Communications Privacy Act and other relevant statutes and laws in investigating and prosecuting criminal cases, conducting online investigations, and acquiring electronic evidence.
