Criminal Justice Information Law Unit: this Unit provides legal advice and support to facilitate criminal justice information sharing. It contributes to many programs, including: the National Crime Information Center (NCIC), Next Generation Identification (NGI), National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS), the provision of criminal history record information for non-criminal justice background checks, and the sharing/dissemination of FBI information with federal, state, local, tribal, and foreign criminal justice agencies. CJILU is seeking attorneys who have experience with criminal justice information systems, access to background check information, the ability to analyze complex issues of state and federal laws, and the desire to learn new technologies that require in depth analysis.
· Conduct legal research and prepare written analyses on relevant topics.
· Advise clients verbally and in writing on legal issues relating to subject matter covered by programmatic unit.
GS-15: In addition to the above duties:
· Brief executive management on legal conclusions derived from complex factual analysis and comprehensive legal research.
Applicant must possess a J.D. degree from an accredited law school (or have an LLM degree or other graduate law degree in addition to a J.D.).

Extensive travel may be required to provide legal instruction at various conferences, case support, and for on-site team reviews of FBI Field Office forfeiture operations.
