The United States Department of Justice, Antitrust Division, seeks an experienced attorney with a specialized focus on electronic discovery to serve as a Trial Attorney in the Division’s Civil Litigating Sections. These sections investigate and litigate mergers and civil conduct violations of the federal antitrust laws.  These matters are often complex and can involve dozens of parties and substantial productions.

Job Description

As an e-discovery-focused Trial Attorney in the Civil Litigating Sections, responsibilities will include working closely with the sections' case teams, as well as the Antitrust Division's IT litigation support team, in the investigation and litigation of proposed mergers and civil conduct antitrust violations. In furthering the work of the Division, the e-discovery-focused Trial Attorney will be an integral part of the sections' civil case teams in negotiating, obtaining, and reviewing electronic evidence to ensure that evidence collected by the Antitrust Division can be promptly, fully, and effectively collected, reviewed, analyzed, and used in investigations and litigations, while ensuring defensibility and compliance with all relevant legal requirements and policies. The Trial Attorney will also work to establish best practices and training programs regarding discovery issues across the Civil Litigating Sections, including on-us discovery. The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience working with case teams and litigation support on discovery in large, complex matters involving a variety of electronic evidence.

Qualifications

  1. Be a citizen of the United States;
  2. Possess a J.D. or equivalent degree, be an active member of the bar in good standing (any U.S. jurisdiction), and have at least at least four years of post J.D. legal experience to qualify at the GS-15 level;
  3. Have experience working with case teams and litigation support on discovery in large, complex matters involving a variety of electronic evidence; and
  4. Demonstrate excellent writing, analytical, and interpersonal skills.

  1. Cover Letter (highlighting relevant experience and a description of significant federal cases litigated, to include your role in them, and explaining your interest in the position).

    3. Candidates are being solicited at the GS-15 level, with salaries up to $172,500 per annum, commensurate with current salary and experience.

Applicants eligible for veterans' preference must include that information in their cover letter or resume and attach supporting documentation (e.g., the DD 214, Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty and other supporting documentation) to their submissions. Although the "point" system is not used, per se, applicants eligible to claim 10-point preference must submit Standard Form (SF) 15, Application for 10-Point Veteran Preference, and submit the supporting documentation required for the specific type of preference claimed (visit the OPM website, www.opm.gov/forms/pdf_fill/SF15.pdf for a copy of SF 15, which lists the types of 10-point preferences and the required supporting document(s). Applicants should note that SF 15 requires supporting documentation associated with service- connected disabilities or receipt of nonservice-connected disability pensions to be dated 1991 or later except in the case of service members submitting official statements or retirement orders from a branch of the Armed Forces showing that their retirement was due to a permanent service-connected disability or that they were transferred to the permanent disability retired list (the statement or retirement orders must indicate that the disability is 10% or more).
