Date

Watson v. DOJ, No. 15-62553, 2017 U.S. Dist. LEXIS 155315 (S.D. Fla. Sept. 21, 2017) (Cohn, J.)

Re:  Request for certain records concerning witness in plaintiff's criminal case

Disposition:  Adopting magistrate judge's report and recommendation; granting defendant's motion for summary judgment

  • Exemptions 6 & 7(C):  "The Court agrees with [the magistrate judge's] well-reasoned Report" which "concluded that the Department of Justice properly invoked Exemptions 6 and 7(C) in denying [plaintiff's] request."  The magistrate judge previously held that there was a privacy interest in these records and, "[a]lthough Plaintiff suggests that disclosure of the information he seeks would expose corruption by state law enforcement personnel, his complaint offers little support beyond speculation for his claims."
