Meet the Acting Assistant Attorney General

Samuel R. Ramer is, Acting Assistant Attorney General

Samuel R. Ramer is the Acting Assistant Attorney General for Legislative Affairs. In that capacity, he heads the Department's Office of Legislative Affairs (OLA), which is responsible for managing the Department's relationship with Congress. OLA advocates for the Department’s legislative priorities, responds to congressional inquiries, and represents the Department’s interests on Capitol Hill, as well as with respect to other legislative matters impacting the Executive Branch. Mr. Ramer earned his B.A. from Brandeis University, and his law degree from Boston University School of Law. After law school, Mr. Ramer was an Assistant District Attorney in New York City, and then joined the Department of Justice as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the District of Columbia. Mr. Ramer worked as Counsel (detail) to Senator Jeff Sessions on the Senate Judiciary Committee, and then served as Senior Counsel for the House Judiciary Committee. Most recently, he was the General Counsel and VP of Government Affairs for Symplicity, a software company headquartered in Virginia.
