"Earlier today, U.S. Attorney General William P. Barr met with the Honorable David Lametti, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada in Washington, DC. They discussed a broad range of matters, including cross-border organized crime, illegal opioids, money laundering, electronic evidence and telemarketing fraud that targets the elder population, as well as the upcoming meeting of Ministers of the Quintet and Five Country Ministerial. They discussed their shared commitment to protecting the security and safety of the citizens of both the United States and Canada from transnational criminal organizations.
Both governments agreed to continue working closely together through greater operational collaboration, including increased law enforcement coordination and intelligence sharing to further their mutual interests and strengthen their bilateral relationship to combat trans-border crime.
The U.S. law enforcement relationship with Canada is one of our most important and extensive partnerships. Continued collaboration and successful joint law enforcement programs between the United States and Canada on justice matters remain a priority for the U.S. Government."
