Clare Putnam Pozos
Clare Putnam Pozos has served as the Senior Advisor to the United States Attorney since May 2018. In this role, she helps oversee the operations of the Office. She leads the Office of Public Affairs and External Engagement and works on strengthening the Office’s relationships with law enforcement and community partners, as well as oversees communications with the Department of Justice, the public, and the press. She also continues to prosecute criminal cases, focusing on complex dark web narcotics investigations, fraud, and public corruption cases.
Ms. Pozos has served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney since 2010, beginning her prosecutorial career in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia before joining this Office in 2014. Throughout her career, she has prosecuted hundreds of cases, taken over 40 cases to trial, and handled numerous appeals before both federal and state courts. Her prosecutions have included offenses involving international drug-trafficking and overdose deaths, cybercrime and cryptocurrency, economic fraud and money laundering, gangs and violent crime, obstruction of justice, and animal cruelty.
Over the course of her career, Ms. Pozos has received numerous Special Achievement Awards honoring her trial and investigative work. She was recently recognized, along with HSI Philadelphia’s Cyber Crimes Investigations Group, by the Office of National Drug Control Policy for the HIDTA 2019 Outstanding Opioid Investigative Effort involving the successful investigation and prosecution of dark web narcotics traffickers. She was also honored to receive this national award in 2018 for the successful investigation and prosecution of individuals who were importing deadly drugs from China and distributing them in the United States, leading to multiple overdose deaths across the country.
Before joining the Department of Justice, Ms. Pozos worked as an associate at Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom in Washington D.C., concentrating her practice on political law and ethics investigations. She served as a law clerk to the Honorable Michael M. Baylson, United States District Judge of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
Ms. Pozos earned an A.B. in History, magna cum laude, from Harvard University in 2004, where she was the President of the Hasty Pudding Theatricals. She received her J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 2007, where she was Managing Editor of the Journal of Labor and Employment Law.
Ms. Pozos lives in Delaware County, PA. She is actively involved in her community and serves on the Boards of the Lankenau Medical Center Foundation, the Rock School for Dance Education, and the Agnes Irwin School. She is a member of the University of Pennsylvania Law School American Inn of Court.
