District of Maine

The U.S. Attorney for the District of Maine is the state's chief federal law enforcement officer. The office prosecutes criminal cases brought by the Federal government, prosecutes and defends civil cases in which the United States is a party, and enforces the collection of debts owed to the Federal government.

The U.S. Attorney's Office works to foster strategic partnerships with federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, as well as other members of the community, to have a positive impact on the quality of life for all Maine residents.

There are 93 U.S. Attorneys serving in designated districts throughout the U.S. and its territories. The U.S. Attorneys work under the direction of the U.S. Attorney General and represent the United States of America in federal courts throughout the country.
