The U.S. Attorney's Office takes a proactive approach to crime and drug prevention throughout the district. The office has adopted a number of strategies to carry out the Office's mission of making Iowa's communities a safer place to work and live.

Victim Witness Assistance

The Victim-Witness Program was developed to ensure that crime victims in this district are informed of their rights and to assist crime victims throughout the criminal court process. This office is committed to ensuring that victims and witnesses of federal crimes are treated fairly, their privacy is respected and they are treated with dignity and respect.

Anti-Terrorism Task Force

After the events of 9/11, an Anti-Terrorism Task Force was formed comprised of federal, state, and local agents who coordinate and develop investigative and prosecutive strategies in dealing with terrorism in Iowa and throughout the country.

Project Safe Neighborhoods

Project Safe Neighborhoods is a gun violence reduction initiative being carried out in each of the nation's 93 federal judicial districts.

Project Safe Childhood

In 2006 the U.S. Department of Justice established Project Safe Childhood as a nationwide initiative designed to protect children from online sexual exploitation and abuse. Our office works strenuously to protect Iowa kids by aggressively prosecuting Internet (and other) child predators and by educating kids, parents, and others about better avoiding such dangers on the Internet.

Law Enforcement Coordinating Committee

Law Enforcement Coordinator

Through the efforts of the US Attorney, the Law Enforcement Coordinator, LEC, and Victim-Witness Coordinator, VWC, a variety of training opportunities are now available to all federal, state and local agencies. Also the LEC and VWC assist with promoting grant opportunities and other funding initiatives that provide benefits to the community.

Red Ribbon Week

The District continues to take a leadership role in the events of Red Ribbon Week which is a national campaign to honor the memory of Enrique Camarena, a DEA agent who was killed in the line of duty by Mexican drug traffickers. As part of the campaign, the office will again receive nominations for the Camarena Award exemplifying an officer who has done an outstanding job in drug prevention. Last year the award became national through a joint effort of the US Attorney's Office, the Elks and the Drug Enforcement Administration. The first national award winner was Deputy Sheriff Keith Flink from the Sac County Sheriff's Office.

The Americans with Disabilities Act is a program that, through lawsuits and both formal and informal settlement agreements, works to achieve greater access for individuals with disabilities.

Human Trafficking Icon

Human Trafficking Response Team

United States Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Iowa brought together law enforcement, prosecutors, and victim service providers to create the Northern Iowa Human Trafficking Response Team. Together we stand committed to do everything we can to help victims of this horrible crime and to bring the criminals to justice.
