Law Enforcement Coordination – National Security

May 17, 2016

The New Mexico All Source Intelligence Center (NMASIC), the state's intelligence fusion center, held a day-and-a-half Fire Liaison Officer Training seminar on May 17-18, 2016 in Rio Rancho.  The seminar included threat briefings and other information aimed at preparing liaison officers to engage with the fusion center and share pertinent criminal and terrorism-related information between fire departments, police and other law enforcement agencies, and the fusion center.  The U.S. Attorney’s Office's Intelligence Analyst Elsworth, provided a brief overview of the U.S. Attorney’s Office-Anti-Terrorism Advisory Council (ATAC) program, with an emphasis on recent topics covered during ATAC’s quarterly meetings, which are held in partnership with NMASIC.  Mr. Elsworth encouraged the fusion center’s Fire Liaison Officers to attend ATAC meetings, whenever the topic is of interest and relevant to their work.  He also briefly discussed the ad-hoc scientific advisory group that the ATAC has utilized over the years to seek out speakers with expertise in emerging threat areas.  ATAC queries this informal group of individuals for assistance in identifying subject matter experts in a variety of areas, should the need arise.
