Auditor Chappell made a presentation to the student chapter of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) and other students at the University of New Mexico Anderson School of Management. The audience was comprised of both undergraduate and graduate students with an interest in the ACFE and/or pursuing a career in the field of forensic accounting. While Auditor Chappell's presentation provided general information about the USAO and how the office is organized, the focus of her presentation was the Affirmative Civil Enforcement (ACE) unit and her role as an auditor supporting the investigation and litigation of ACE cases in the District. Her presentation will include discussion of cases the office has successfully pursued to give the students a sense of the practical impact of the work of the ACE unit and the millions of dollars the unit has returned to the American taxpayers when the United States has been a victim of fraud.
