On April 14, 2015, a federal grand jury in West Palm Beach, Florida, returned a multi-count indictment against Salomon E. Melgen. The indictment charges that the defendant engaged in a scheme to defraud Medicare and other health care benefit programs, that he submitted false claims to Medicare, and that he made false entries into patient medical charts. A copy of the indictment and the press release issued by the United States Attorney’s Office are attached. The defendant was arraigned on April 15, 2015. The defendant was released on bond pending trial.
On March 6, 2017, the jury trial commenced against the defendant. On April 28, the jury returned a verdict of guilty as to 67 counts in the indictment. The defendant was remanded to the custody of the United States Marshal.
The sentencing hearing began on December 4, 2017, but proceedings are still ongoing. U.S. District Judge Kenneth A. Marra has taken the parties’ arguments under consideration and will schedule a date on which to issue his rulings and pronounce the sentence. This page will be updated when this hearing is scheduled.
