
Audrey Strauss
Acting United States Attorney
In February 2018, Ms. Strauss returned to the U.S. Attorney’s Office as Counsel to U.S. Attorney Geoffrey S. Berman. She became Deputy U.S. Attorney in April 2019 and Acting U.S. Attorney in June 2020. Ms. Strauss had served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for seven years in the S.D.N.Y. from 1976 to 1983, during which time she tried more than twenty cases and served as the Chief of Appeals in the Criminal Division and Chief of the Securities and Commodities Fraud Unit. Ms. Strauss also served on the staff for the Independent Counsel for the Iran Contra matter. After her public service, Ms. Strauss practiced at the firms of Fried Frank Harris & Jacobson, where she was a Litigation Partner from 1990 to 2012, and Mudge Rose Guthrie & Alexander, where she became a partner in 1986. After her years in private practice, Ms. Strauss served as Vice President and Chief Legal Officer for Alcoa Inc.
While in private practice, Ms. Strauss served as an Officer and Trustee of the Federal Bar Council, as President of the New York Council of Defense Lawyers, and as a board member of the Office of Appellate Defender and the Innocence Project. She is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. Ms. Strauss earned her Juris Doctor degree at Columbia Law School, where she was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar and a Kent Scholar. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree cum laude from Barnard College.
