These task forces are specifically intended to target a particular criminal activity, often in a particular geographical location. These task forces contribute greatly to the successful prosecution of federal crimes in the Southern District of West Virginia.

The Trilateral Drug Enforcement Network Team Task Force (TRIDENT) includes the Raleigh and Fayette County Sheriff’s Offices and is sponsored by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). TRIDENT directs its primary law enforcement efforts in the following manner:
Covertly and overtly investigate drug activities, drug organizations, and violent crimes committed or furthered within the Task Force’s jurisdiction; To gather and share intelligence data relating to illegal drug and violent crime activities within the Task Force’s jurisdiction; To direct cases that will impact all levels of drug trafficking; To promote law enforcement cooperation through multi-agency investigations.

The U.S. 119 Task force is a drug and violent crime task force that assists agencies in investigating primarily murder cases. This task force works with the Logan Police Department, Logan and Boone County Deputy Sheriff Departments, the Bureau of Criminal Investigations, and the West Virginia State Police Department. This task force assists the Drug Enforcment Administration in their investigations of some federal cases. Their jurisdiction covers Mingo, Logan, Boone, and Lincoln counties.
