John P. Fishwick Jr. has served as United States Attorney for the Western District of Virginia since December 2015, after nomination by President Barack Obama and unanimous confirmation by the United States Senate. John was nominated for the position by Senator Mark Warner and Senator Tim Kaine.
John earned an undergraduate degree from Harvard College. He received his J.D. from Washington and Lee University, where he was an editor of the Law Review and a cum laude graduate. Following law school, John clerked for former United States District Court Judge James C. Turk. John has over thirty years of trial experience in both federal and state courts.
John has been a leader in many legal organizations throughout his career. He was President of the Ted Dalton American Inn of Court from 2011-2013. In January 2016, John received the Drum Major for Justice Award from the Southern Christian Leadership Conference.
