Gays Mills Man Sentenced to 15 Years for Distributing Child Pornography

MADISON, WIS. - John W. Vaudreuil, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Ricky Olson, 58, Gays Mills, Wis., was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge Barbara B. Crabb to 15 years in federal prison, to be followed by 20 years of supervised release, for distributing child pornography.  Olson pleaded guilty to this charge on April 6, 2016.

The investigation revealed that Olson used a false persona to create fake email addresses and fake accounts on, which he used to contact a 12-year-old child.  Olson then requested and received sexually explicit images and videos of the child via Snapchat and email, which he distributed to others via the Internet.  Olson also sent the child obscene images of himself.

The conviction of Olson is the result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation; Wisconsin Department of Justice, Division of Criminal Investigation; and Crawford County Sheriff’s Office.  The prosecution of the case has been handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Julie Pfluger.
