Mexican Citizen Sentenced For Illegally Reentering U.S.
MADISON, WIS. -- John W. Vaudreuil, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Ramiro Varela-Garcia, 38, a citizen of Mexico who was living in Cambridge, Wis., was sentenced yesterday by U.S. District Judge William Conley to 42 months in federal prison for illegally reentering the United States after being deported. Varela-Garcia pleaded guilty to this violation on December 19, 2014.
Varela-Garcia was deported from the United States on November 12, 2004, following convictions for 2nd degree sexual assault of a child and criminal sexual assault. He did not obtain permission to return.
The charge against Varela-Garcia was the result of an investigation conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The prosecution of the case has been handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Elizabeth Altman.
