Mexican Citizen Sentenced For Illegally Reentering U.S.

MADISON, WIS. --   John W. Vaudreuil, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Antonio Silva-Menesis, 35, a citizen of Mexico found living in Eau Claire, Wis., was sentenced yesterday by U.S. District Judge Barbara B. Crabb to six months in federal prison for illegally reentering the United States after having been deported.  He pleaded guilty to the offense on November 19, 2013.

Silva-Menesis has been deported from the United States on five previous occasions, the last time being in December 2012.  U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement became aware Silva-Menesis was back in the United States when he was arrested for felony substantial battery in Eau Claire County on May 6, 2013.

The charge against Silva-Menesis was the result of an investigation conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.  The prosecution of the case has been handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Meredith P. Duchemin.
