Stevens Point Man Sentenced For Receipt Of Child Pornography

Madison, Wis. - John W. Vaudreuil, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Denis Gack, 35, Stevens Point, Wis., was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge Lynn S. Adelman to 78 months in federal prison, to be followed by 10 years of supervised release, for receiving child pornography.  Gack pleaded guilty to this charge on October 3, 2013.

Gack was convicted of battery, exposing his genitals to a child, and having sex with a child age 16 or older in 2004 in Wood County.  Gack was also convicted of causing mental harm to a child, and causing a child to view or listen to sexual activity, in Portage County in 2009.

On August 6, 2012, Gack was on probation from his 2009 conviction and was given a polygraph examination as a condition of probation.  After Gack attempted to manipulate his polygraph exam, his home and cell phone were searched and it was discovered that Gack was communicating with a minor.  Further investigation revealed Gack had threatened the minor and coerced her to send him pornographic images of herself.

The charge against Gack was the result of an investigation conducted by the Stevens Point Police Department and the Wisconsin Department of Corrections.  The prosecution of the case has been handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Julie Pfluger.
